Book Giveaway this week.

We’re having a book giveaway today through Thursday on The Helpful Blogger, and I didn’t want you all to miss out.  I’ve posted a book review and the instructions for the giveaway over there.  The book is EAT TO LIVE by Joel Fuhrman, MD.  It’s a wonderful and useful book, packed with info on nutrition, what to eat to stay healthy and even reverse some diseases, and info on weight management, too. Hope you’ll take a look.

Art This Week

Here’s what I painted in class this week… Yikes. To me, it looks like a river filled with debris – albeit,  debris of pretty colors.  I’m going to carve out some time to have another go at it this week.  I’ll show you the results, if they are show-worthy.

Also, I have completely refurbished by on-line gallery.  Right now there are only three paintings – or maybe four – in it. I plan to post a painting a day for a while.  It’s at Daily Paintworks .  Have a look if you have time.

Bugsy and Knuckles have been busy too.  They seem to think they are in charge of my desk now that I’m writing and working on the big computer more.  They do demand their space.  They are pretty good at managing my time and egging me into taking a break or two (or ten) during the day.

We are participating in the Sunday Selfie Blog Hop put on by The Cat on My Head blog.  Please join in.  Here’s their selfie for today…

Have a great week everybuddy…

This and That on Sunday…

It seems to me…

… there’s a book in this wonderful place where I live.  There are some great characters living here and if I write it, I’ll call it Life at the Home…  Stay tuned for that.

For you bird lovers… and I know that many of you are because you tune into Bird TV everyday.  Anyway, we discovered there are a couple of crows nests in the tree out front (this painting is not a crow… MOL) and there were hatched egg shells on the ground. Did you know their eggs look very similar to robins’ eggs, just a whole lot bigger?

No pics of the babies or anything. But, next year, We’ll watch for them.

In class this week…

… painted a picture of turtle hatchlings stumbling over each other on their race from the nest to the ocean.  I’m hoping to show it to you next week.  It still needs more work and my little turtles sadly looked more like cockroaches than turtles.  They will magically transform themselves into cute, scurrying turtles this week… at least I hope they do.

I’m taking acrylic painting with Frits Van Eeden.  He just returned from the Netherlands where he lives part of the year.  He had a great show there of 50 of his paintings.  Here’s a video if you’re interested….  It’s in his first language, but thought you might enjoy the art.

The Helpful Blogger update…

…next week (Friday), I’ll be posting my first book giveaway on

For the first book, I’m giving away an autographed copy of Eat to Live  by Dr. Joel Fuhrman.  It’s a great book for weight loss or just good nutrition information.  To participate, just stop by and subscribe to the blog.  There’s a subscription form at the bottom of most pages on The Helpful Blogger.

Easter by ourselves… fun with food, paintings for sale, and writing all the time.

It seems to me….

I hope everyone had a great Easter last weekend.  I did, or at least I thought I did until I was told that I didn’t.  So, here’s what I mean…  The boys and I didn’t have any plans for Easter.  That was fine with us and we stayed home and did our own thing… that means the big EASY to the boys. Well, the following day, I ran into a friend, asked how Easter was and she said, “What’d you do?  Just stay home by yourself, doing nothing?” It was the tone you needed to hear as if there could be nothing worse than my own company.

Living alone is a challenge at times, but the up side is that you can do what you want, when you want.  I don’t sit around feeling sorry for myself. Instead, I usually try to make the most of every day.  It seems to me that people should not pre-judge someone else’s life.  There, I feel better. Thanks for listening.

So, another fun week on the new blog.  I’m writing, writing, writing all the time. Here’s a picture of the food stylings you are missing if you haven’t dropped by.  If you did drop by this week,  thanks so much.

This past week on The Helpful Blogger I talked about The Four Faces of Eating, I Eat Plants – What do you eat?, and on the Oh Yum page I posted Oh Yum: Wheatberry and Sauerkraut Salad.  You’ll find all of them at The Helpful Blogger.

I’m downsizing… HA!!!…  aren’t I always?  Gonna post one painting per week for a special sale price…  This one is 6″ x 6″ and is acrylic on gessobord.  It is ready to frame.  The price is $36 with free shipping and handling in the continental US.  If interested… leave a comment or email me at lou at lou belcher dot com.  It’d make a nice Mother’s Day gift.

The Boys

The boys are participating in the Sunday Selfie Blog Hop put on by The Cat on my Head blog.  Instead of a regular Selfie… we’re posting this cartoon from years ago.  We are cool cats, right? Well, we’re posting this in honor of Caren Gittleman and Cody. They blogged about children’s books and ours was one of them.  Thanks Caren and Cody. Take a look…  at Cat Chat with Caren and Cody

Have a great day everybuddy.

Productivity… gotta love it!

It’s been a productive week. I got rid of the feeling that my creativity was blocked and have started slinging some paint around again; I opened the new blog; and the boys got their required 22 hours of sleep per day. So a great time was had by all.

First, in the art world, I have a few pieces finished and will be deciding where to hang them in cyberspace this week. Here’s one. You’ve probably seen it before. Can’t remember… but George The Goat makes me smile.

This week on the Helpful Blogger is a Welcome Message and I’ve started a five-part series on different ways to transition to a vegan or plant-based diet.

Happy Day After St Patrick’s Day

Did you all celebrate yesterday?  We did.  No corn beef and cabbage for us though.  We had our regular food.

HH is celebrating today by relaxing. It was a busy week launching her new blog: The Helpful Blogger.  (Don’t worry, she’ll still post here and we will too.)

be kind  :  be the change  :  be the healthiest version of yourself

The Helpful Blogger is a food/health blog about nutrition, weight management, food, plant-based diets, and all things that will make you feel good and feel young.

Lou has been doing lots of studying and has lots to share.  So please go over and take a look.  She even put a sign-up form at the bottom of the page over there, so you can sign up to be notified by email when she posts.  There are two ways to sign up…  RSS means you will receive an email when she posts, and RSS and Announcements means you will receive an email when she posts as well as announcements when she has special news, such as give-aways, etc.  We’re going to follow The Helpful Blogger. We hope you will too.

Now on to the important stuff… A Sunday selfie of us.  It may look like we’re fighting in this one, but we are just gently tapping  each other  (MOL)! We are participating in the Sunday Selfie Blog Hop put on by The Cat on My Head blog.

Have a great day everybuddy…

Hoping You’re Warm

So many people are having horrible weather this week we thought we’d try to send a little sunshine your way.  The other day it was a bit chilly here, then I remembered what cold weather really is.  Hope it warms up for all you folks north of us.

We’re participating in the Sunday Selfie Blog Hop put on by The Cat on My Head blog.  Please join in.

Yes, I know that I’m wearing my toy. I like it that way.

Have a great day…..

Easy Like Sunday

It’s not cold here. I’m just wearing this in solidarity with those in the NorthEast…. Hope you are all okay!

Good Morning…. Knuckles is all hunkered down. It’s very windy here, so he thinks it’s cold too… Not so. Thank goodness.

I’ve been working on a new project. Some of you know that I have been studying everything I can get my hands on about nutrition, plant-based diets, motivation, fitness etc. Never too late to turn over a healthy leaf, right?

Well… of course, since I’m looking up all this info, I thought I’d make a website and put it out there to make it easier for others who are vegans, vegetarians or just interested in learning a bit about nutrition. So, the website is almost ready. I’ll be launching it on March 16, and I hope all of you will come over see it and follow it. I’ll put a notice out when it’s ready.

We, of course, are participating in the Sunday Selfie Blog Hop with the photo above. The hop is put on by The Cat on My Head blog. Join in if you feel like it.

Have a great day.

No Painting Today…

No painting today… yes, sadly, no painting to show you today. In fact, I’m about 5 days behind now in completing paintings for the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge.  Yikes… So, what happened?  I am always so type A about these challenges, right?

Well, the truth is I had a little crisis of confidence… Nothing too major. I just realized that I’ve always painted portraits of the faces of animals.  Animals with actual legs are just giving me a fit and I’m not into showing artwork that just doesn’t cut it.

So,  tomorrow, I’ll start painting whatever strikes my fancy and will save posting animal portraits for when they actual look like the animal, and “ACTUALLY look  like the animal” means that they look as if they could walk on the legs I provide them!!

But, here I am posting this wonderful selfie of Knuckles as we, of course, are participating in the Sunday Selfie Blog Hop put on by the Cat On My Head blog.

Have a great day.

Good Morning.. This is day 4 of the painting challenge and this little guy was a real challenge.  I hope when you look at this, you see a lamb.  If not, that’s okay too.  Got up early this morning to finish this little painting.

Day 3: 30 Paintings in 30 Days.

Today a bird (Blue Tit).  This is Day 3 of the 30 in 30 Painting Challenge.  This little guy  was painted from a reference photo supplied by @martinsbirdwatch on Instagram. He takes wonderful photos of birds and has given me permission to paint from them.  Love this little guy.

This painting is acrylic and measures 6″ x 6″.

Have a great day…

Be Kind to Animals.
