Lessism

You all know that I’ve been aiming, and failing, at minimalism for a couple years now.   Last week my brother sent me a photo of boxes of stuff he had cleaned out.  I responded to his text, “minimalism?” and he responded to mine, “lessism.”  What a great term. Not as threatening and demanding as minimalism.  That’s what I’m shooting for now.  just a little less stuff each week.

I acquired some new paint brushes this week.  They are fantastic. Was going to blog a review of them today, but I’ll wait until I try a few more things with them.  This is the mess I made with them today.

that abstract painting is very relaxing… I had fun painting this abstract floral. … I so want a warehouse studio so I can sling paint and not worry about the mess.

Am Writing…

Well, good thing summer is like winter up north. Too hot to spend much time outdoors, so I’m getting lots of work done. In addition to the blogs, I’m working on two books. Want to finish them both for the November book fair in the Eau Gallie Arts District. We’ll see…

David Ignatius said the other day that he was looking forward to the 4th holiday so he could stay home and work on his latest novel. I know what he means.

This week on The Helpful Blogger, I wrote about Superfood: Beans, and SOS: Salt, and in the Oh Yum column… a great taco recipe (thanks to Suzanne…)

Now a little about The Boys… Here’s Knuckles.

Knuckles’ favorite toy…He has had it for a while, but lately he has decided he must have it with him all the time. Ha !!! He drags it into the bedroom at night, and back into the living room in the morning.

Then at times he wears it.

Happy July 1ST

I hope you’re having a great day. We’re into that part of the summer where the day starts off warm but okay, then at 3 or 4pm we have huge torrential rains… steamy after. That’s what you get when you live in paradise…

Now, I’m doing my walk at 6:30 in the morning to beat the heat. And wow, the advantage is that I’m up and going so much earlier.

So, with all that extra time, the flowers above are what I produced this week. When I finished it, I turned around and realized this 6 x 6 painting could be the offspring of the painting I finished last week. HA!

Oh well… At least there is no doubt what my favorite colors are this week.

Flowers everywhere…

This is my latest. It’s millions (almost) of layers of acrylic paint on an 18″ x 24″ gallery-wrapped canvas. This time I just kept painting layer after layer until I reached a point where I thought it was finished. I think I’ll do that with the next painting too… Not so much planning involved… Anyway…. Just have to wire the back and take it down to the gallery.

So, the heat has finally prompted me to move my daily walk to early morning. Today, I walked at 6:30am and enjoyed it much better.

Happy Flowers

I’ve been working on this painting this week… As with most paintings, it had its dark moments when I wasn’t sure I was going to pull it off. But am liking this latest version and it may be finished soon.

This has been one humid week…90% most of the time. We have stuck close to home… The weather has been beautiful though.

Okay, now it’s hot

Hot, hot, hot here.  It’s only in the 80s, but the humidity must be high.  I walk every morning; and these days, I’m melting and drinking a jug of water when I return. But, I’m not so much complaining as I’m noting the weather. As long as we’re not having a hurricane and there is nothing to shovel, I’m happy.

Had our last class for a while.  So, here’s my favorite from this series of lessons.

ABSTRACT FLOWERS

Today is Day 12 of my 100-Day Project.  Always have to have some accountability check going on. This one is not about painting though. I’m recording my food and exercise daily for 100 days to try to establish a sustainable pattern and a GOOD HABIT.  Here’s the definition of habit = a settled or regular tendency or practice, especially one that is hard to give up. Yep! That’s what I’m shooting for.

Another habit I’m establishing is getting back to daily painting.  So…. more paintings to come.
