Stuff 3: The Plan

The Road to Taming the STUFF

The Road to Taming the STUFF

I know getting rid all this stuff is not going to be easy. There is no straight path to taming the piles and piles I have accumulatedbut, I always think that a good plan will win out in the end.

The PLAN is NOT to willy-nilly get rid of everything in sight.  The easy thing would be to rent a storage unit and pile all my stuff into it and be done with it all in one swoop.

HOWEVER, although expedient, I am not the type of person who can do it that way. No, I need to sort through and touch my STUFF one more time before making a decision about its fate.

Therefore…. THE PLAN  of course is to get this place under control.   THE PROCESS to implement that plan is…

IDENTIFY: Each day, pick a reasonable section of the condo to complete.

APPRAISE: Pick up each item in that area and determine if it adds value to my life or is necessary. If I can say yes to one of those two criteria, it is a keeper. If not, out it goes.

KEEPER: find a place for it; or if that place is not cleared yet, label where it will go and put it in a waiting area

NOT A KEEPER: donate it or trash it.

MAYBE: I will set up a MAYBE area. The very few items that may cause me ambivalence will go in a MAYBE AREA until I make a final decision as to its destination. Let’s just hope that I’m strong enough to make these decisions. I have this vision of everything piled in the MAYBE area…  Yikes!!!   …. No… I will be strong!!

Stay tuned…. The next post will have photos of my attempt to tame the first area.

Dealing with it much better than hiding it in a storage unit . Have you read The Joy of Less by Francine Jay? I found it helpful in deciding what to keep.

That sound like a really good plan, Lou. We have our fingers and paws crossed that you don;t make everything a “maybe.” 😉 (Just kidding, we know you won’t!)
