Writing: where, how and when

So when do you write. So often when writers are interviewed, people want to know where they write, how they write and when they write  At conferences, people take notes on these important facts as if it will make a difference in their own writer.

Personally, I write on paper and on the computer, everywhere and at any time. And I have the urge to write all the time,  That’s how I know that I’m a writer first. I’ve been playing around with drawing and painting lately too, but I don’t have the urge to do it all the time.  Maybe when my skills improve and it’s easier for me, the fire within me will ignite. I’ve felt it, but it’s just not constant like the urge to write.

Does that mean that I write all the time, everywhere and in any manner?  Nope. I have my down periods too. Sometimes, I put down my current project for a month or two.  What does it all mean?  Nothing. It means that there is no prescribed place to write, way to write and time to write.  Whatever suits you best is the best method.  The point is to write.  Don’t get fancy and make a bunch of rules about the superfluous stuff.  The only rule is to write.  I need to be reminded of that occasionally myself.
