Are you familiar with National Novel Writing Month? Thought I’d plant a seed today and see if it’ll grow by November. Yes, November is National Novel Writing Month. In honor of that a few hundred thousand people world wide all attempt to write a 50,000 word novel during the month of November.
I’ve participated for 4 years. Not sure whether I’m going to do it again this year, so this post is as much for me as it is for you. It is always hectic fun, the book ends up being a hot mess, but it’s a way to get that novel down in short order. The way I’ve approached it in the past is that starting at 12 midnight on November 1st you put one word after another and keep on doing it until you hit 50,000 words or more.
Can it be done… Yes, it can, especially if you have a good outline ready. The trick is to move forward at all times. Don’t spend any time editing or correcting even punctuation. Just plow on through. When you get done, you can revise and edit to your heart’s content. The point is to get it all down.
So, are you in?
You won’t be alone. Go to http://www.nanowrimo.org for more information. If you want to do it, you can sign up anytime. You don’t have to wait until November. The only thing you have to wait until November for is to write. You can work on your outline all you want, but don’t start writing until November 1st.
Im all over this!
Great…. You’ll enjoy it. It’s the fastest writing in the world.
Im lovin it!
