It’s a new day… a new week…. enjoy!!!
How many writing projects do you have going right now? I have three major ones and a smaller one. The three large ones are books. One is a sequel of sorts to The Zen of Max, another, of course, is the companion book to this blog and it will be called, Before you write…, and the third is a book on eldercare that seems to stall out periodically. I’ve been working on it for over ten years. The smaller project is a series of pdfs on writing.
It would seem much saner to work on one project at a time and work to completion and then move on to the next. Why do we do this to ourselves… why do we start too many projects and dilute our concentration?
I think we do it because we can’t help ourselves. We are creative human beings (or human beans as Max would say) and certain projects or topics call to us and we can’t help ourselves.
I would suggest that before you write take time to study each new project thoroughly. Is it something that you truly love and is worth your time? It is something you can complete in a reasonable amount of time? And, is it something that excites you every time you work on it?
If you answer yes to all three, go for it. If you answer yest to one or two, you might need to go for it also. The point here is to not start projects willy-nilly. Instead, spend some time thinking them through because there are just so many creative hours in a day, a week, a month and a year. Make the most of them…
Have a great week.
