Blogging is a form of communication. You all know that, right? Yet, some folks post to their blogs and expect others to read them and heap praise on them, but they don’t do the same. Many times when starting a blog, we wonder if anyone is listening (or reading in this case). Well, posting to the blog is not enough. It takes some work to gain a following.
One of the best ways to gain followers for your blog, is to follow others and to become part of the conversation. That means, getting out there into cyberspace and finding some blogs that you enjoy and that are useful to you and, on a regular basis, visiting those blogs and commenting on them.
If you don’t have time to comment on every blog you read, click on the like button at least. Be generous with your comments or your praise for others. After all, they are just struggling along the same way you are.
One of the most efficient ways to manage your blogs is through Google Reader. (To find it, go to google.com and click on More in the menu at the top of the page then click on Reader. You can add sites here to follow by pasting their URLs into the Add spot. Then when you have a few minutes to read blogs, go here and they are all in one spot.
Blogger and WordPress have similar features and you can save the blogs you follow in each of them. The point is to become involved with those who write about topics of interest to you. Talk to them through the comments sections on their blogs and chances are very great that they will follow you and refer people to your blog when appropriate.
