If you’re reading this and you know the answer, please leave a comment…. (or if you’re reading this and just love the way I’ve written it, please leave that comment as well. It never hurts to be flattered when you’re totally frustrated. Takes a bit of the sting out.)
I’ve been using my NEO (it’s a little word processor that runs on batteries for about a year and never acts up) to write the rough draft of my NaNOWriMo novel.
The other night I noticed that the files were almost full, so I started downloading them to my laptop. File #7 was particularly long and I watched the stats creep by… 5% downloaded… 7% downloaded. I closed my eyes for just a second, but you know how that goes… I was asleep before we got to 10% downloaded.
When I woke up, I must have been bleary eyed and bleary brained, because after pushing a couple of keys, I saw a menu appear on the screen that was loading words from my novel into it. Knowing that that wasn’t what I intended to happen, the bleary-brained part kicked in and I closed the menu box. Here’s the result of that short 30 seconds of my life…
… the keys on the left-hand side of the keyboard type letters as they are supposed to… the keys on the right-hand side of the keyboard type numbers…. Nothing I will make it return to normal operation. Luckily, I had the presence of mind to drag and drop my novel onto a flash drive… and luckily I do have the desk-top computer to work on – but someday, I’ll want to use my laptop again and it is no good to me.
I’ve asked the question on Google every which way, but I’m not getting any relevant responses. So, please leave a comment if you have a clue about this. Otherwise, watch for the sale next month on my new invention that automatically encrypts as you write.
