I just realized that my life has been hijacked by NaNoWriMo (that’s National Novel Writing Month to those of you who don’t know). Don’t get me wrong… I’m having a great time. In fact, I have 41,000 words so far and we’re a little under halfway through the month.
No, I’ve been hijacked two ways. One, is I want to write on my NaNoWriMo book and nothing else. The motivation of that is good on one level, but not good for all the writing that I need to do everyday.
And two, when you try to write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days, you have to give self-editing permission to take a vacation. Once you let down your guard and get in the groove of writing without editing — meaning always moving forward and not even stopping when you get the feeling that your fingers have flubbed and made a typo — it takes a day it takes a while to try to put things in reverse and start writing with a certain degree of accuracy again. So, I’m in the NaNo mode and will be for a few more days.
Just wanted to post this update… I have 9,000 more words to go before I’m back to posting regularly on Before You Write.
In the meantime, if you’re writing for NaNo this year, how are you doing? Leave a comment. We’d love to hear from you.
Keep up the good work. Hope we get to read the novel at some point!!!
